This is my 30th year teaching and my 1st year being a related arts instructor. I am very excited to be a part of CMCSS offering CTE in middle school for the 1st time! Career and technical education (CTE) is the practice of teaching specific career skills to students in middle school, high school, and post-secondary institutions.

Career Exploration Lab Expectations & Safety Guidelines Contract

    • Respect: Always be respectful of others and the equipment.
    • Preparation: Enter the lab promptly and head straight to your station to prepare for class.
  • Technology: All computers should be charged. Technology use must have an educational purpose.
    • Collaboration/Teamwork: Students are expected to work collaboratively with their peers. Read through all of the activity directions before beginning an experiment. Work to the best of your ability!
  • Time Management: Manage your time effectively to complete tasks within the allocated time period.
    • Classroom Materials: Do not remove materials or supplies from the lab without the teacher’s permission. Only use tools and materials that have been authorized by the teacher. 
    • Cleanliness: Maintain a clean workspace and ensure all equipment is returned to its proper place at the end of each class. 
    • Food and Drink: No food or drinks are permitted in the lab at any time.
    • Cell Phones: Keep cell phones away unless you have received direct permission from the teacher.
  • Headphones: Headphones should be off and put away unless using for instructional purposes. 
  • Safety First: Always follow the teacher’s safety instructions and guidelines. 
    • Wear required protective gear, like safety glasses and gloves, and use equipment as directed. 
    • Keep pathways clear by placing extra items (books, bags, etc.) on the shelves or under the work tables. 
    • Pay close attention to any Warning, Safety or Caution Call-out boxes in the activities’ directions.
  • No Horseplay: Horseplay or distracting behavior is not allowed in the lab. Always stay focused on the task at hand to ensure a safe working environment.

Report Hazards: Immediately report any unsafe conditions, broken equipment, or accidents to the teacher. Do not attempt to fix equipment or clean up spills without guidance.
